Caramel Brownies
Caramel Layer Choco-Squares

Title: Caramel Brownies

1 cup All-purpose flour
1/2 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp Baking powder
1/4 tsp Salt
1 1/2 cup Sugar
3/4 cup Unsalted butter - at room temperature
4 Eggs
1 tsp Vanilla extract
1 cup Chocolate-covered caramels (about 24) unwrapped & halved
Confectioner's sugar - for dusting
Heat oven to 350F. Coat a 13x9x2-inch baking pan with nonstick
cooking spray.
Stir together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt in large
bowl. Beat together sugar and butter in large bowl with electric mixer
until smooth. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each
addition. Beat in vanilla. Add flour mixture and stir until well
blended. Spread batter evenly into prepared pan. Sprinkle with caramel
pieces. Bake in 350F oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until fairly firm to the
touch. Cool in pan on wire rack. Dust evenly with confectioner's
sugar. Cut into brownies.

Yield: 28 servings
1 cup Evaporated milk -- (5 oz)
1 pkg Caramels - unwrapped, (14 oz)
1 pkg Pudding-included German chocolate cake mix - (1 lb 2.25-oz)
1 cup Chopped nuts
1/2 cup Margarine or butter - softened
1 pkg Semisweet chocolate chips - (6 oz)/(1 cup)
Heat oven to 350F. Reserve 2 Tbsp evaporated milk for cake mixture. In
medium saucepan, combine caramels with remaining evaporated milk.
Cook over low heat, stirring frequently, until caramels are melted
and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat. In large bowl, combine cake
mix, nuts, margarine and reserved 2 Tbsp evaporated milk; mix at low
speed until crumbly. Press half of dough mixture in bottom of
ungreased 13x9-inch pan; reserve remaining dough mixture for topping.
Bake at 350F for 8 minutes. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over
partially baked crust. Carefully spread caramel mixture over
chocolate chips. Crumble reserved dough mixture over caramel mixture.
Return to oven; bake an additional 15-18 minutes or until filling is
set. Cool completely; cut into bars.
